Baosteel, one of China’s leading steel producers, has revised its capacity target for the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030) to over 80 million metric tons, down from the previous 80–100 million mt range.
The company emphasized that it will focus on efficiency and synergies rather than “blind expansion.” This strategic shift reflects Baosteel’s intent to unlock greater value from existing operations instead of pursuing aggressive growth.
In addition, Baosteel’s export performance remains strong — with a 10% rise in shipments during January–September 2025 — indicating that total exports are likely to exceed 6.5 million mt this year, above its initial target of 6.0 million mt.
