India became a net exporter of finished steel in fiscal year 2025-26, ending a two-year gap.
Provisional government data showed:
- Finished steel exports: 6.6 million mt (+36% YoY)
- Finished steel imports: 6.5 million mt (-32% YoY)
- Domestic consumption: 164.2 million mt (+8% YoY)
Major exporters to India during the year included:
- South Korea
- China
- Japan
- Vietnam
- Russia
The shift highlights stronger domestic competitiveness and robust steel demand growth.
